Author Guidelines

Intending authors/contributors who wish to publish in the journal are requested to submit original and full technical papers/reviews or short communication. The papers should be typewritten with double spacing on A4 size paper and sent to: the Journal e-mail address:

The following examples illustrate the format for reference:
1. Journals: Aderenle, B. O. and Afolabi, T. O. (2001). Improved harvesting and post harvest handling of plantains. Trop. Sci. 15(2):21 – 27.
2. Books/Monographs: Curtis, R. A., Food and Bioproduct Processing. Wikkie, B. N. and Patel, K. S. (Eds), Macmillan Press, London (2000), pp. 1-20.
3. Articles in edited books: Rattray, J. and Cooke, I. N. (1999). Plant biotechnology and the oils and fats industry, In: Ratray, J. (ed.) Biotechnology of Plants, fats and oils. pp. 1-10 Academic Press, New York.
Papers should be in English language. However, authors are expected to be consistent in the use of either the British or American spelling.

Tables should be in Roman numerals while figures should be in Arabic numerals and numbered consecutively with clear descriptive titles and legends. Information presented in tables must not be repeated in figures and vice versa.

Abstract not exceeding 250 words stating the main findings as briefly as possible and suitable for publication in abstracting publications should accompany articles


Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
