The assessment of a Coal deposit in Chikila, Guyuk Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Nigeria for use as Metallurgical Coke was carried out. Coal samples were taken from six different locations and the following tests were carried out: proximate, ultimate and instrumental analysis. The tests indicated that the samples of Chikila Coal was found to be volatile matter content of 36.30 %, moisture content 8.90 %, ash content 21.30 % and fixed Carbon content of 34.58 % with very poor coking properties (Gray king coke type 'A'). Thus Chikila coal can be classified as non-coking sub-bituminous coal. The sulphur content of 0.34 % falls within the recommended values for coals to be use as metallurgical coke.
